Sortation

Belt Sorters with Bi-Directional Diverts

Control software for belt sorters that divert to either side of the line — doubling destination density from a single conveyor run.

The challenge

A conventional belt sorter divides items to one side. Bi-directional diverts let a single line discharge to either side — doubling the destinations reachable from the same conveyor footprint. That flexibility comes with a harder control problem: each divert has to fire in the right direction, for the right item, in a tight window, without disturbing the items around it or the flow of the line.

What we build

We build the control logic that decides and drives every divert in real time — which item, which side, and precisely when. The software handles destination assignment, divert timing, and the sequencing needed to keep left and right discharges from interfering with each other, all tuned to your line layout and product mix.

The technology

Divert control runs on deterministic, real-time platforms, so actuation timing is consistent at speed. Item tracking is maintained continuously along the line, so each bi-directional divert acts on accurate position data rather than an estimate, and the control architecture scales with the number of diverts and destinations.

Why it matters

Bi-directional divert sortation gets more destinations out of less conveyor — but only if the direction and timing are right every time. Precise, real-time divert control is what makes the denser layout dependable instead of just compact.
